UTAH DEALER SCHOOL - ESCUELA DE DEALERS State-approved Utah dealer education

Cost calculator

Utah dealer license cost calculator

Tell it how many owners are on the application, how many people take the 8-hour course, and how many dealer plates you want. Every number below is a published Utah fee — and the result is a floor, not a total, because your bond premium, your insurance, and your lot are quotes, not fee-schedule numbers.

What you'll pay the state

Add up your fixed fees

Fees that repeat per person — fingerprints, photos, the course — multiply by the numbers you enter. Everything here comes from the published fee schedule; nothing is estimated on your behalf.

Everyone listed on the application is fingerprinted.

Every partner, officer, and manager takes it.

Order them with the TC-301 — later takes 4–6 weeks.

Dealer license application (TC-301)$127
BCI fingerprints ($30 × 1)~$30
Owner photos (~$1 × 1)~$1
8-hour orientation course ($49 × 1)$49

Starting total — published fees only~$266

City permits (CUP, sign) & business licenseyour city sets these
Your lot — sign, fence, office build-outdepends on the property

Estimates err on the side of the fee schedule as published — fees change, and your city sets its own. Every MVED license expires June 30 no matter when it's issued — fees aren't prorated. Confirm current amounts with MVED and your city before budgeting.

How to read the total

It's a floor, not a quote

The calculator only adds numbers Utah actually publishes. Four things it deliberately does not guess at:

The fingerprint line is the state's portion. The $30 per owner is a $20 background check plus a $10 Rapback subscription (UCA §41-3-205.5). The place that rolls your prints charges its own fee on top.
Dealer plates carry a handling fee. $12 each is the plate; the handling fee is added at the counter, which is why the plate line shows a plus sign.
The bond is coverage, not a payment. $75,000 is the ceiling the bond can pay out — you pay a yearly premium a surety quotes from your credit and business history. Anyone quoting a flat number before pulling credit is guessing.
Your lot is its own budget. A permanent enclosed office, a 24-square-foot sign, and display space for three vehicles cost whatever your property needs to get there.
Motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile, and small-trailer dealers file a different class: a $51 application and a $10,000 bond instead of $127 and $75,000. This calculator uses the $127 line — the TC-301 walkthrough covers which class you file under.
